Even when you figure out where all the menus and buttons are and what they theoretically do, you’ve got to put that into practice by using Pro Tools to record, edit, mix, and produce music. Whether you’re making music as hobby, part-time gig, or profession, your goal should be to create a professional-sounding product that appeals to people. Using Pro Tools is not the same as launching a text editor and learning how to write a letter. Music and audio production require a distinct and specialized set of skills and knowledge that most people don’t have. Learning how to put together and run your Pro Tools studio will set you apart from the crowd. Your Pro Tools Studio is a thorough, practical guide that walks you through the steps of starting your own small home or project studio and using Pro Tools as your centerpiece digital audio workstation. You’ll learn about the different Pro Tools LE and M-Powered systems, which one is best for you, how to install and get it running smoothly. We decided to present this information in a small and very affordable package. To give you some perspective, the Pro Tools 7.4 Reference Guide is 981 pages in length. Given the size of this book and the breadth of information I cover, I have not attempted to write about every possible feature in Pro Tools or describe every hardware configuration in detail. I have also not attempted to elaborate on all aspects of audio engineering or production. To do so would be a fool’s errand. On the contrary, I think it is exceptionally valuable to have just this type of book to learn from. I have used my professional experience, insights, and authoring skills to reduce the thousands of pages of manuals, reference guides, specifications, charts, and other engineering and music books to something much more manageable. This makes it easier for you to learn and get started without feeling like the entire world has been dumped on your shoulders. Having said that, there’s still a tremendous amount of information in this book. That’s a result my personal commitment to you. By buying this book, you’ve hired me to help you get up and running. I take that seriously.
