Description

Let me tell you what Photo Restoration and Retouching Using Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo is, and what it's not.

I fully restore and retouch over 70 photos using Corel Paint Shop Pro in this book. I have organized the photos into "Photo Studies", each of which focuses on a specific aspect of restoring or retouching, like scratches, red eye, or contrast problems. I often show multiple techniques which can be useful in other circumstances, and choose the best of the bunch and say why. I fully restore each photo, which means I may show you how to remove red eye, but I finish out the photo by talking about what I did to make the photo look the best.

With over 70 Photo Studies, I cover a lot of ground. Each photo is unique, but many share problems or solutions. I've got old black-and-white photos, Polaroid photos, 35-mm photos, digital photos from multiple cameras, and more. I wanted to give people an idea of the range of problems they can run across, and which solutions make the best sense. These photos come from my family, which aligns the content and style of this book towards the casual/pro user and photo enthusiast. These are the types of photos they will have and want to work on. This is not a book aimed exlusively at graphics designers, professional photographers, or marketing and advertising professionals (although they will appreciate it and learn things).

This is a book grounded in reality. I don't promise to show you how to restore a pile of ashes back into the Mona Lisa. There are things I can't fix, and there are things that can't be fixed. My approach is to coach the reader try their best and compare the before and after versions against each other... not against some figment of what the perfect photo would look like.

This is not a "how to use" tutorial or an "absolutely comprehensive" reference on any one version of Paint Shop Pro. This is not a "show every feature or every new feature in Photo X2" manual. The focus is on the photos and how to work with them using Paint Shop Pro Photo. There are other books on the market that serve the tutorial/reference need well and I decided very early in the process that Photo Restoration and Retouching Using Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo would not compete with them in purpose or content. To appeal to as many Paint Shop Pro users as possible, I have tried to be as "version agnostic" as I can, while not avoiding newer features. The book has been tested against the Photo X2 beta and I myself am on the Corel beta team and am currently using Photo X2.

I write in a light-hearted and casual style. I'm friendly, easy-going, and personable. Oh, and modest too. I want the reader to connect with me and form a relationship with me. I will be available and accessible to them.

Here is a more of a "stock" desctiption.
